The Alamo Detachment is very active within the San Antonio community. The most prevalent activity that we have been supporting since 2003 is the Marine Helping Marine Program at San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC). We have been visiting with those wounded personnel each week and assisting them as needed. We also provide a Texas style Taco breakfast each Thursday morning and provide a little comfort with select gifts if they need them. Another activity is the support for the Bexar County Homeless Veterans Burial Program where we are present at the funerals of any homeless veteran and help provide military honors. We have members that are active at the Audie Murphy VA hospital and several members that assist the JROTC units at most all schools within the San Antonio community. Planning is now underway to get our own Honor Guard Detail and get those volunteers trained for it and obtain the necessary items. We have gotten our National Charter for a Young Marine unit and now are starting to get the adult leaders trained and then signup those that are eligible to join the unit as Young Marines.
